As a division of the licensing giant Imagination Technologies, PURE Digital has the keys to a fully-stocked, up-to-the-minute goodies cupboard, sot eh DRX-702ES’s spec and features are right on the pace. It lets the feature-rich, third-generation Frontier Silicon Chrous FS1010 single-chip Digital radio/audio processor from its predecessor the DRX-701ES, and it’s equipped with USB connectivity to allow future firmware upgrades from the PURE Digital website via a PC or MAC.

The DRX-702ES wants for little. It has 99 presets, a scrolling LCD text display, selectable station ordering, fast auto-tune, date and time display, and three stages of dynamic range control to set the level of compression… Where PURE differs from its rivals is in its use of PAC-II circuitry, which digitally massages the output to sound slightly smoother and warmer than other DAB digital radio tuners.

The high sensitivity FM/AM tuner module apes Digital Radio usability to some extent, with 99 presets, one-touch RDS auto-tune and selection by station name. You can even name AM and non-RDS stations. But DAB digital radio takes simplicity to the next level. Power up for the first time and the DRX-702ES scans for every digital station in the area. Twist the jog dial to preview and push to select. Falling off a log would be comparatively complicated.
