VideoLogic’s digital tuner sounds great Which?, February 2001
A good time to tune into digital radio
Tuning in to digital radio has just become affordable. Last year we gave the thumbs up to digital radio, as it offers many more stations and useful features. But we lamented the high cost of tuners.
Now, VideoLogic has launched the DRX-601E digital hi-fi tuner for £299. This is several hundred pounds cheaper than the models released last year.
Although it can receive only digital stations, you can connect your old analogue tuner to the back, and listen to analogue FM and AM stations.
We were surprised that the DRX-601E has just nine preset memories. This may be enough for many people, though it’s very easy to tune into stations anyway.
In our tests it sounded just as good as the more expensive digital tuners we looked at last year, and it’s easy to use.
At £299, we think it’s good value, so if you’re interested in the new stations, now could be the time to take the plunge into digital radio. It’s sold by Dixons and other high-street shops.
VideoLogic’s digital tuner sounds great, is a doddle to use, and won’t break the bank.
