Sound quality is excellent. PC Magazine, February 2001
Digital radio has been broadcasting for nearly five years, but has made little impact with the average listener. Technically, it all makes so much sense. Digital radio encodes the broadcast sounds, removes non-audible signal and sends the compressed signal out clearly over a single frequency network.
But all this comes at a price, and the least expensive digital radios on the market cost over £500 (inc VAT). However, VideoLogic has broken this price barrier by releasing the DRX-601E for under £300 (inc VAT).
The unit is designed to integrate with existing hi-fi separates - 430 by 59 by 310mm and comes with a traditional black aluminium case and digital display. Its size may be too wide for some hi-fi cases, but it comes equipped with standard RCA phono input/output connectors as well as an S/PDIF socket for connecting to DAT players and a RDI socket. This will allow you to link it to a PC once data services become available.
Sound quality is excellent and a significant improvement on most existing FM tuners. The remote control allows easy control of stations and quality.
If you want to get into digital radio early, this is the first product that actually seems worth the expenditure.
