Although the appearance is very similar to the EVOKE-1, the Tempus-1 is a much improved offering with a host of time and timer related functions added - hence the name Tempus. In addition to the timers the new display is a real boon and is much clearer to read than most of the usual LCD offerings.
Keeping the classic lines is no bad thing as the Tempus-1 looks great. The light ash veneered cabinet compliments the brushed metallic finish of the front and rear panels to produce an overall design that works well in a wide range of settings. As well as looking smart, the Tempus has a very solid feel, thanks to these of high density materials and good internal damping of the cabinet. This attention to detail in the cabinet design helps minimise any 'boxiness' in the final sound.
Operation
This is well refined and has been kept as simple as possible.
Software Upgrade
The software upgrade is a great extra feature and adds to the longevity of the radio as the facilities and operation can so easily be upgraded.
The alarm facilities on the Tempus are quite remarkable and very well integrated to get the most from DAB
Smart Recording
If you like to be able to record radio programmes to listen late, then the Tempus is definitely for you.
This excellent feature set make the Tempus a hugely powerful recording tool that you can easily use to capture your favourite stations.
Summary
PURE Digital have done it again. The Tempus is a brilliant upgrade to the EVOKE and provides a host of very well thought through features. It's a great alarm radio, but the real power comes through its sophisticated record timers. A brilliant table-top alarm radio - make sure you check this one out.
